In this lesson I teach my composition “Birds Landing”. It’s a short study piece with a few technical challenges such as playing chords, harmonics and thumb position.
It’s really important to always be learning a study piece of some kind. A lot of jazz bassists fall into the trap on focusing full time on creating walking bass lines and soloing. Whilst these are essential skills, learning study pieces is hugely beneficial for developing your technique and learning new language that you can apply to your own music.
The transcription for this lesson is included in the Discover Double Bass Lessons Guide.
I hope you enjoy the piece and if you do learn it I would love to hear a recording of your version.
Best of luck with your practice! Geoff
