Interview with Yuri Goloubev
We are pleased to introduce the great Yuri Goloubev, with an interview about his playing and his technique, and a sensational solo performance at the end of the video. Yuri is a true artist, who reached a high level in classical bass before making the switch and establishing himself in the jazz world. He has played worldwide at a huge number of concert halls and jazz festivals, with artists such as Bob James, Wolfgang Muthspiel, Gwilym Simcock, Pablo Held, Tim Garland, and Norma Winstone. Yuri recently released an album, 'Two Chevrons Apart', which features Tim Garland, John Turville, and Asaf Sirkis (Basho Records, 2020), and is also a teacher and professor of double bass at the Royal Welsh College of Music.
In the interview, Geoff asks Yuri about his technique and experiences, including people who inspired him, advice for playing thumb position, vibrato in thumb position, and much more! Don't miss Yuri's solo performance of 'Autumn Leaves' by Joseph Kosma at 18:22.
