Interview and musical demonstrations with Brian Bromberg
In this video, we’re back with the legendary jazz bass virtuoso and sideman to the stars, Brian Bromberg. Known for his work with musical greats from Stan Getz to Michael Bublé. We discuss his landmark solo albums Wood and Wood II, and enjoy Brian's play through of his arrangements of the jazz classics All Blues by Miles Davis and Blue Bossa by Kenny Dorham.
The seminal album Wood was released in 2002 to critical acclaim. I can remember hearing it for the first time and being blown away by the deep musicianship and virtuosic playing. In addition, many bassists cite the recorded bass tone as setting the benchmark for recordings. It's easy to see why Brian Bromberg has been hired to play on so many recordings with artists from Dean Martin to Andrea Bocelli. In their 2002 review, Jazz Times said of the recording: 'Bassist Brian Bromberg is blessed with that uncommon combination of superb technique, astounding versatility and heartfelt lyricism.' - I couldn't agree more with this statement and I hope you hear that shine through in this short video.
