Interview and Performance with Valentina Ciardelli
Valentina Ciardelli returns this week with another interview and solo performance. You can watch her first interview and performance here, if you missed it.
Today, we are talking about life as a double bass soloist, including choosing a varied repertoire, tips on arranging and transcribing for the bass, and we find out a bit about Valentina’s beautiful bass. She also plays a solo performance of her own composition at the end of the video, called ‘II - IGOR’.
Valentina is from Lucca, Italy, and studied at Royal College of Music, London and Trinity Laban with Leon Bosch, where she now teaches with Leon. She plays and composes a variety of styles including classical, jazz, and contemporary music. Her work is focused on expanding the virtuoso double bass repertoire, especially transcribing the music of Frank Zappa which you can explore through her YouTube channel or Patreon channel. She is part of the harp and double bass duo 'The Girls in the Magnesium Dress' with harpist Anna Quiroga. Valentina also composes music for the double bass.
