International Women’s Day Interview

We are excited to mark International Women’s Day 2021 by celebrating a platform that is making a positive impact in the online bass community: Bassists with Boobs.

Bassists with Boobs started as an Instagram account in July 2020, with an aim to share and promote more women bassists online, increase visibility and improve representation. They are inclusive of all who identify as women, transgender, non-binary, or any other under-represented identities.

I met with the three founders of the platform, Evangeline Tang, Phoebe Clarke, and Yijia Cui who are all currently studying the double bass at UK conservatoires. We chatted about what Bassist with Boobs is, the aims of their account, and the positive messages they share. We also talk about how we can all help contribute to the empowering message they are promoting. It was a great chat to have and we are all so excited to see double bass communities worldwide becoming more diverse and more inclusive!
