Jazz Double Bass Tutor

LA-based Katie Thiroux is an award-winning bassist and vocalist who continues the hard-swinging bass tradition of bassists such as Ray Brown, Milt Hinton or Ron Carter.

Katie’s album, “Off Beat” was produced by renowned drummer, Jeff Hamilton and awarded a “Best Album Of 2018” by Downbeat Magazine as well as "Rising Star" 2018 and 2019.

Katie is the co-artistic director and bass faculty at the Jazz Maui Camp. She is also the director of “Women in Jazz” for the Monterey Jazz Festival, and played at the 2020 SF JAZZ “Women in the lead”. She also hosts the wildly popular podcast, The Hump with Katie Thiroux.

Katie Thiroux has recorded two courses for Discover Double Bass: From Beginner to Bandstand for beginner bassists to learn the fundamentals and get performing, and Bandstand and Beyond for intermediates+ looking to take their playing up a level.

In 2019, Katie Thiroux filmed her first course for Discover Double Bass on the fundamentals of jazz bass. She returned in 2022 to record her second course for DDB.
