We are thrilled to welcome Joseph Conyers, to Discover Double Bass! Joseph has been the assistant principal bassist of the Philadelphia Orchestra since 2010 following positions with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Grand Rapids Symphony (MI) as principal bass. He teaches at the Juilliard School, NY and is a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music where he studied with Harold Robinson and Edgar Meyer.
Earlier this year, Joseph presented a new series of video lessons on orchestral double bass playing which we can’t wait to share with you. In the meantime, we hope you enjoy this interview on what makes a great double bass section. The discussion covers working as a team, creating a collective sound, how to fit into a new section, choosing bowings and fingerings, uniformity of sound, using French and German bows and more.
We hope you enjoy the video and please join us in the comments to welcome Joseph to Discover Double Bass.
