I’m a big fan of double bass strings and have tried all the major brands over the years. My string draw is full of different sets as I continue with my search for the ‘perfect’ hybrid string that bows well and is great for pizzicato playing.
My regular strings are Evah Pirazzi, Weich (light gauge) by Pirastro and so far they have been used in all of my lessons. I also use D’Addario Helicore Hybrid light gauge strings as they really cut through the mix well and have a tone and playability I really like. This comes in really handy for loud big band gigs which is a style I love to play. If you want to hear more about those please check out my 'Evah Pirazzi Weich String Review'.
As much as I like my usual brand, I’m always on the look out for new strings and after D’Addario kindly sent me a set of their Zyex strings I thought I would do a quick review with some playing examples (pizzicato and arco). Check out how I got on in this short video.
I hope you enjoy the video and it would be great to hear your thoughts on these new Zyex strings. Please leave a comment and let me know what you think and as always, I also welcome any lesson suggestions or feedback.
Cheers Geoff
